ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTERS HAVE NOW CREATED A NEW DISEASE PLASTICOSIS.

The plastic crisis has spawned a new disease in seabirds, scientists have warned.
Birds that died after eating large amounts of plastic were found to have scarring in the first part of their stomach and ‘deformed’ intestines.
Scientists have called the new disease ‘plasticosis’, and believe it is caused by small pieces of plastic inflaming the digestive tract. Young birds also have the disease, thanks to their parents feeding them plastic.  Plasticosis is a fibrotic disease caused by small pieces of plastic which inflame the digestive tract.  Over time, the persistent inflammation causes tissues to become scarred and deformed, with the knock-on effects including digestion, growth and survival issues. Painful death comes from starvation and infection due to weakened immune system.
