DONT DO WHAT WE DO, DO WHAT WE SAY

Environmental groups have condemned the UK government’s decision to approve the first new coal mine in 30 years.
Levelling-up secretary Michael Gove granted planning permission for the site in Cumbria after years of delay from the government.
The approval comes after the UK urged other countries to “consign coal to history” as it hosted the COP26 climate summit last year. The department for levelling up, housing and communities (DLUHC) said the coal from the mine near Whitehaven, to be known as Woodhouse Colliery, will be used for the production of steel and not for power generation.
The mine’s application says that nearly 2.8 million tonnes of coal will be extracted per year.
Friends of the Earth described it as an “appalling decision” that will damage the fight against the climate crisis while not replacing Russian coal.
