WEAPONS SPEND VERSUS THE ENVIRONMENT.

According to the US government’s budget for the 2021 fiscal year, defense spending accounts for approximately 15% of the federal budget, or about $740 billion. This includes funding for the Department of Defense, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and other defense-related agencies and programs.
On the other hand, spending on the environment is allocated under various categories such as “Natural Resources and Environment” and “Energy”. Within these categories, the US government has pledged to invest in initiatives such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, investing in renewable energy, and protecting public lands and wildlife habitats.
However, the amount of money allocated towards environmental initiatives in the US is generally smaller than the amount allocated towards defense spending. For example, in the 2021 fiscal year, the budget for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which is responsible for implementing federal environmental policies, was around $9 billion, or approximately 0.2% of the federal budget.
