It may not be unrelated to the fact that Dubai enjoys sunnier and warmer weather in December compared to Scotland’s largest city. With beaches and swimming pools that Glasgow can only dream of, Dubai also boasts a plethora of five-star hotels, glitzy restaurants, and well-stocked bars. Additionally, it offers extensive flight schedules connecting to the rest of the world for those who couldn’t secure a spot on one of the hundreds of private jets that flocked to Dubai, leaving some attendees with no choice but to opt for commercial flights. What is the point of these conferences when most of the delegates have no intention of changing their lives but expect Joe Bloggs to change his, governments are just as guilty with their ridiculous 4 year electoral cycle planning when its plain to see nothing has really changed in the last twenty. Renewables have moved forward but so has fossil fuels usage and emissions are still increasing. Perhaps a COP in Alice Springs or Delhi should be a more realistic location where the real affects of climate change can be seen. The attendance would be probably in single figures.
