DELETING EMAILS HELPING THE ENVIRONMENT

Deleting old emails is one of the steps environmental experts suggest could help England avoid a major water shortage within the next 30 years. According to the Environment Agency, the country could face a shortfall of nearly five billion litres of water per day unless urgent measures are taken. The agency warns that a growing population—expected to increase by eight million by 2055—will drive higher water demand, from everyday activities like doing laundry to maintaining leisure spaces such as golf courses. At the same time, climate change is expected to reduce water availability due to hotter and drier summers. Officials also highlight that the rise of artificial intelligence is fuelling demand for more data centres across the UK. These facilities consume large amounts of water to cool their systems, further straining water resources.
